AVAILABLE POSITIONS
Indian Health Service hires 50 to 60 pharmacists a year to fill pharmacist vacancies (generally due to retirement of a pharmacist or the creation of a new position). This vacancy list is updated every two to three weeks. TEMPORARY DUTY (TDY) OPPORTUNITIES
IHS has a number of short term job opportunities available for pharmacists who desire to work at an IHS or Tribal hospital or clinic for two weeks to six months. These paid short-term assignments allow pharmacists to work at a site and learn how IHS pharmacists practice. Two types of individuals usually apply for TDY positions, pharmacists who want to see what IHS pharmacy practice is like before applying for a full-time position and those individuals, usually former IHS externship students or employees, who want to take a break from their current job or retirement to see different parts of the country while providing valuable support for the IHS Pharmacy Program. STUDENT EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
IHS has senior year externship rotation agreements with many of the schools of pharmacy. Students interested in externship assignments should contact their school externship/rotation coordinator.
